I draw upon my climbing/mountaineering interests to explore the risk/safety aspects of this dangerous sport. The ropes allow a climber some degree of safety yet the ability to push the limits leading to more risk. Through my work I aim to illustrate the concept of adventure and freedom versus safety and restriction. Balance, counter-balance, tension, boundaries, being on the edge.
Colour is an important feature in my work, the climbing ropes are colourful whereas the rock is muted.
Climbers choose different coloured ropes to identify which rope they are climbing with, bright colours are more visible and increase safety.
